Wreck of the Lutine. October 1799

£200.00
SOLD

Oil on card.

Height 32cm Width 35cm

As with the piece Wreck of the Henrietta Marie. June 1700 I wanted to communicate the total fragmentation of the ship to the point at which its entire form and identity appears to crack and splinter. I used the edge of a long-bladed palette knife loaded with paint to create breaking lines of dark colour so that there is a confusion as to what is mast, what is rigging and what is the hull. Within minutes they will be indistinguishable from each other and from the waves.
